Wij groeien op de straat,
waar haat met verraad,
altijd om het hoekje staat.
De straat waar ik mijn tranen,
een voor een, vallen laat.
De straat waar ik wel als eerste start,
maar er niemand achter jou staat.
Je huis woont thuis waar je bed niet slaapt.
Op die straat waar het leven echt niet gaat,
over rozengeur en manenschijn.
Ook niet over de pijn is fijn.
Toch krijgt die straat mij nooit klein.
Al strooit ze water in de wijn,
en rijdt alleen de trein naar in je eentje zijn.
Al staat gezeur weer aan zijn deur,
hij is een man dus kent geen kleur.
Doe dit, doe dat, maar niet veel heur.
Dat is de straat waar hij op leeft.
De straat wat God mij geeft alsof die
niks beters te doen heeft.
Soms lijkt die straat mij niet gezind,
en waait er alleen de wind die zij goed vindt.
Op mijn eigen benen staan is waar plezier begint,
daar ben ik zelf mijn grootste vrind.
Dan is de straat jouw beste maat.
Waar je het liefst alleen heen gaat.
Dit is de praat die waarheid slaat.
Het is de straat waar ik van praat.
